The art exhibition
The particularity of the TO’A NU’UROA project lies in its multidisciplinary and unifying character, in particular by the organization of an artistic exhibition in 2025. The exhibition will visually and scenographically shape the scientific results of the two years of research of the TO’A NU’UROA team, through exclusive artistic creations by local contemporary artists.
The characteristic of contemporary art being to offer an artistic and sensitive reflection on its time, it is more than relevant to integrate it as a tool for reflection in projects based on societal issues. The organization of an artistic exhibition will lead to reflection and a unique approach to the challenges of the TO’A NU’UROA project.
The objectives of the exhibition
- Put art at the service of awareness and the ecological cause, in order to highlight differently the importance of the role of corals in the Polynesian environment.
- The democratization of the scientific data of the project through a sensitive and artistic experience.
- Integrating the voices of local artists into the societal issues of global warming and the disappearance of corals.

The context
The observation of a lack of diversity in the artistic mediums and events presented on the territory, and the limited conception of art in the local collective imagination shows that contemporary art remains a discipline that is still very underdeveloped within Tahitian society. We can only welcome the territory’s efforts for cultural renewal, however it is important to note that there is real potential for the development of contemporary plastic arts in conjunction with the rehabilitation of traditional arts.

To do this, follow-up and observation will be offered to participating artists, so that they are immersed in the project for better understanding and inspiration. The scientific team will be able to collaborate with the artists in the form of the following activities :
Informative conferences to follow up the project
Demonstration of microfragmentation method
Turbinaria uprooting dives and coral transplantation
Observation dives
Artists will also be invited to participate in educational workshops on coral restoration and marine eco-citizenship, with the aim of raising public awareness.
